Why microsuction

The safest way to clear blocked ears.

Microsuction is widely accepted as the safest alternative to old methods like ear syringing. No water, no flushing, no mess. Just a small light, a magnified view of your ear canal, and careful removal of whatever's blocking your hearing.

Safe for sensitive ears

Because there's no water involved, it's the safer choice if you've ever had ear surgery, a perforated eardrum, or anything else that rules out traditional syringing.

I can see what I'm doing

The whole procedure is done under direct vision, so stubborn or impacted wax can be removed precisely. Much lower risk than blind syringing or going at it yourself with cotton buds.

Quick and comfortable

Most visits take 15 to 30 minutes. You'll hear a soft suction sound and might feel a bit of pressure, but it shouldn't hurt. If anything's uncomfortable, I stop and adjust.

Immediate relief

Most people notice the difference the second the wax is gone. That muffled, blocked-up feeling lifts and normal sound levels come straight back in.

About David

Hi, I'm David. Twenty years in the NHS, and a lot of grateful patients.

I'm a healthcare professional with over two decades inside the NHS, and ECP Ear Wax Removal is the work I do alongside my operational shifts. My approach is straightforward. I take the time to explain what I'm doing and why. I check both ears properly before touching anything. And if you've never had microsuction before, I'll walk you through it so there are no surprises.

You won't get any pressure to add things on, no scripted sales lines, no clock-watching. Just a proper job done well, the way I'd want it done for my own family.

Frequently asked

Everything people ask before they book.

Does microsuction hurt?

No. Microsuction is normally painless. You might feel a bit of pressure or a gentle tickling sensation, and you'll hear the soft suction sound, but if anything's uncomfortable I stop straight away and adjust.

Is it actually safe?

Yes. Microsuction is widely accepted as the safest method for ear wax removal, much safer than older approaches like ear syringing. The whole thing is done under direct vision using a small light, so I can see exactly what I'm doing. Serious complications are very rare.

How long does a visit take?

Most visits take 15 to 30 minutes depending on how much wax is there. You'll usually notice your hearing improve the moment it's gone.

Do I need to use ear drops first?

Olive oil or medical-grade ear drops a few days before can soften stubborn wax and make removal quicker, but it isn't essential. Two or three drops, twice a day, for two to three days before is the usual guide. If you haven't used any, the procedure can still go ahead safely.

What's the aftercare?

Just keep the ear dry for 24 hours, avoid swimming or getting water in the ear, and don't poke around with cotton buds. Your ear might feel a bit sensitive or "open" for a short while, which is normal. If anything feels off afterwards, get in touch or speak to your GP.

What if there's no wax to remove?

It happens. If I do the assessment and there's no wax causing the problem, you pay £25 for the visit and assessment, not the full procedure price. I'd rather tell you straight than charge you for something you don't need.

Do you treat children?

I assess under-16s first, and we talk through the cost before any treatment goes ahead. A parent or guardian needs to be there throughout.

How do you decide which days you're free?

Because I still work NHS shifts, I open days on the online calendar whenever I'm free. If you can't see a slot that suits you, give me a ring on 07540 783835. There's a good chance we can find something that works.
